Carter, Mack Lead Rutgers to 79-55 Win

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers basketball clicked in all facets for interim coach Dave Cox in his second game since Mike Rice's suspension. Dismantling Howard, 70-55, the Scarlet Knights cruise into Christmas with a 10-2 record.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers had not issues holding on to a lead against Howard tonight and enjoyed its most complete victory of the nonconference season.

Sophomore guards Elijah Carter and Myles Mack kept their hot streaks from the floor alive. Combining for 14-of-24 shooting from the Floor, Carter and Mack logged 35 points to finish first and second in scoring.

Ten players scored for Rutgers, which shot a 60 percent from the floor for the second straight game and committed just nine turnovers.

"Earlier in the year, we were pigs," said interim coach Dave Cox. "Now we're trusting the play and we're trusting one another."

Howard (3-10) shot well (46 percent) but could not break the Rutgers defense. Committing 18 turnovers in the process, the Bison fell behind by double digits in the first half and never challenged.

"We mixed the defenses up a little bit but just look at the guards you're talking about," Cox said. "Myles Mack is dynamic in regards to [the fast break]. He's an absolute beast and [Jerome Seagears] does a good job of harassing the ball."

Winning two straight since Mike Rice's suspension, Rutgers (10-2) has just one more non-conference game before his return. The Scarlet Knights face Rider Dec. 28 and will then welcome back Rice to resume coaching duties before tipping off the Big East season at Syracuse.

"We're not going to get lulled to sleep," Carter said. "… We're going to be right back at it because we want to finish this part of the year strong."
