Game Preview

After Thursday's night's opener of the Cancun Classic, in which the Demons were embarrassed by an undermanned Grader Webb team at home, losing 71-59, DePaul has a lot of soul searching to do.

Well, the turnaround will be quick and DePaul will look to rebound when hosting the Austin Peay Governors this Saturday afternoon.

The Demons were beat in every facet of the game on Thursday and need to fix a lot of things if this is to be a successful season. DePaul was outrebounded 44-31 and shot a pathetic 15.4 percent (2-13) from three-point range while also hitting just 61.1 percent from the foul line.

It was an unacceptable performance on all levels and if the Demons want to turn their fortunes around, they have to take their anger out on Austin Peay.

The Governors come to All State after losing their first-round game of the Cancun Challenge to Western Kentucky 74-54 on Tuesday. Austin Peay sports a 1-1 record (beating Samford 75-64) and will be motivated to win this game seeing what Gardner Webb just accomplished.

The Governors' leading scorer through two games is 6-2 freshman guard AJ Lynch (10 ppg). However, Austin Peay features a balanced squad, as through two games, six players have averaged between 8 and 10.5 ppg. The Governors also get solid production down low from 6-6 sophomore Chris Freeman, who has been good for 8.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg, and 6-8 freshman Will Horton, who has thus far averaged 9 points and 8 rebounds.

Senior guard Jerome Clyburn has been out for the last month with a knee injury, but is expected to return to the lineup for Saturday's game.

Saturday's game is the first meeting between the two schools.

Again, on paper this is a team the Demons should handle, as the Governors (who were 12-20 last season) are a young squad. However, we certainly know no games are won on paper, with the loss to Gardner Webb a humiliating reminder.
