Game Preview

One again the Blue Demons will be tipping off the start to the college basketball season with an opener on campus at the friendly confines of McGrath-Phillips Arena.

The game is the third in a hoops tripleheader in Lincoln Park on Friday. The DePaul men's team will follow a women's doubleheader as part of the Maggie Dixon Classic women's tournament.

The Blue Demons come in following a 91-74 exhibition defeat of Division II Lewis on Saturday night.

This game represents the start of the third year of Coach Oliver Purnell's rebuilding effort at DePaul and is one where the Blue Demons are expected to make some strides on the court.

DePaul has never faced this UC Riverside team before. The Highlanders, who hail from the Big West conference, finished with a 14-17 record last year, but managed to pull off an upset of Washington State.

UCR is coming off a 83-72 exhibition game win over San Diego Christian. The Highlanders did most of their scoring on the interior in that contest and were led by a pair of newcomers. 6-10, 270 lb. junior college transfer Chris Patton led the way with 23 points on 10 of 11 shooting from the floor to go along with eight rebounds. 6-6 freshman forward Josh Fox racked up a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
